Summer in full swing

This update from co-head of HEAT, Zia '13:

Yesterday I brought my sister, Tegan '10, along to do some weeding at the garden.  I had not been to the garden in a little while (much to my dismay) but I had a good feeling that the garden would look great. Tegan on the other hand, had not seen the garden since last year, and she was taken back by the growth and success of our garden.  I can even quote her saying, "This is more impressive than the Williams College garden."
I wanted to share some of the photos that we took.  The pictures do not fully show how wonderful the garden looks; that can only be witnessed by dirt covered hands and the sweet juice of fresh peas in your mouth.

 Don't the peas looks delicious!?
If you want some...visit the garden and take a few home!

The garlic is almost ready to harvest!

The garlic scapes have been harvested!  I took home a few and made some scape pesto so that you can all experience the scape experience at the start of school.  Scapes are really good and if you like garlic, you will love this pesto!

The garlic themselves will be ready soon, so get your gardening gloves on and be ready to pick it in the upcoming weeks!  You will know the garlic is ready when at least two leaves have turned brown.  Feel free to take some home, but make sure to leave a few so that we can share them with the rest of the school (garlic can be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area)

The peas are ready, although I think most of them are gone now, but its definitely worth checking them out to see if there are any left.  If you think you like peas, you have been fooled all your life.  Peas fresh off the vine are ten-thousand times better than store-bought peas (They shouldn't even be considered peas because fresh peas are out of this world!)

The lettuce/arugula already bolted (gone to seed), but our lovely advisor, Ms. Basdekis planted some new lettuce so that will be ready in a few weeks.

The carrots, onions, and beets are progressing well, however not ready for harvest yet.

We are looking forward to seeing some growth on the tomato vines, eggplants, and pepper plants soon!
Hope you decide to check out the garden because it really does look fantastic and just a little bit of weeding makes a big difference.  If something is ready, it is all yours! Let us know what you pick, so we can keep track of the garden's yield.
